Soldats Mort

Our new favourite animal

One came within a few feet of the van,
and scared poor Carrie.

Impalas

Sure are a lot of these little guys....

Baboon buster

The Maasai warriors who work security for Keekorok Lodge, carry a ceremonial club. It actually has a use when a troop of baboons saunters through.

The baboons know these guys and flee when they show up.

Shea looks great in orange

How much Fanta have we consumed ?

Some critters are cuter than others

one for Marnie

Marnie was wondering if we were drinking at all...

Long time no shot of the host

And here they are ...

The Hippodrome

Did I mention that Keekarok has a pond in the back with a bar, and a dozen free-range hippos ?

More Critters

Sharon, my roomie, complained bitterly that I take too many shots of people and not enough of "stuff".

These are Topis and Impalas, lounging outside the gate of Keekarok.

When Carrie cries...

When Carrie cries, we know we're on the right track.

We were all kind of overwhelmed by the beauty and serenity of the balloon ride.

Forgive my negligence

The mighty Cam Taylor has joined the SRWT crew as grip, soundguy, dogsbody, therapist, and comic foil.

*Karibu !!

*This means welcome in Swahili.

Maasai Mara

Mara means "spotted plain", I'm not sure i'm spelling Maasai correctly, as it may be the tribe has two A's and the place has only one.

More ground crew than flyers

Cooks, rope jockeys, drivers, and general hangers-on yukking it up with the SRWT crew.

Thanks to the mob at Transworld Balloon Safaris.

Arrr matey !!

Did I mention the Champagne breakfast ?

A balloonists' tradition dating from when balloonists routinely crashed on private property, and carried Champagne to smooth the feathers of the landowner.

PS
Peter only flies in the AM, then he can safely swill the bubbly.

Spotted katz

We didn't see any leopards,
but cheetahs are prety cool.

They ignore the tourists completely,
but we don't ignore them.

The Balloon Crew

Aerial safari

Captain Peter Tanguay took us up for the most amazing view of the Maasai Mara.

And here comes Rusty !

is anyone out there old enough to remember Friendly Giant ?

One of the other guests at Keekarok

Hippos, baboons and these Macaques all run wild on the property with gazelles, etc.
No fences.
Big fun. Sit in the bar and watch hippos.

I have to be quick

We're back in Nairobi tonight to interview Eric Wainaina.
Safari, Fly, Shoot shoot shoot !!

update:
we're shooting him tomorrow at his new studio.

Hello Kiddy !

We've been on safari for 4 days...
saw 4 of the "Big 5"

Lions
Elephants
Rhinos
Buffalo

336 Hours to go, maybe 13 sleeps.

edit the Jamaica episode,

finish Bears on Broadway" for cancercare and re-edit SRWT New Zealand.
I guess i better get to it.

Did i mention i dropped my laptop and smashed the lcd ?

Now i'm mad at the Mouse (TM)

Simple Plan was pumped up for the interview but a certain huge entertainment corporation in Orlando put a stop to the whole deal.

At least the upper echelon of SRWT will get a couple of days of richly deserved R&R but we "mechanics" have to stay behind in Winnipeg (and Vancouver). Oh boo-hoo, we have to wait 3 whole weeks before we leave for Kenya and Egypt.

I guess i can unpack all this stuff, now. Good practice for Africa. Yeah, that's it.

All the running around today included new visa shots- some crazy unky duck fan or stalker seems to have made off with the hard copy of the shot seen below, so i had to get new ones shot and on a plane with 26 minutes of lead time... very jet set.

Worst Visa Photo EVER

Mohammed Atta, Usama and i do NOT
get our photos taken at the same place.

Do i look like this all the time ?

WINNER Nick Nolte mugshot-lookalike contest.

It should be noted that if you click on the photo it wil be even worse

Schedules change fast on SRWT

We're going to Florida on Friday to interview "Simple Plan".

The host of SRWT is over the moon.

PS Today's my last day (officially) at Global TV Network, Winnipeg.

It has, as they say, been real.
